FAQs about the Fall Student Government Summit:
1. Will we have time to sightsee while we’re in Orlando?
Yes! If you arrive early on Thursday or Friday, you’ll have a lot more time to see Orlando. Good news! The theme parks are just a mile or two away from the conference hotel.
After the conference schedule ends on Saturday afternoon about 5 p.m., you’ll have time to see the town. And Sunday after the conference concludes at 12:00 p.m. would be a perfect day to sightsee before heading home!
2. If I’m by myself, will I “fit in?”
Yes! You’ll easily connect with other student leaders or advisors. ASGA’s popular “Connector Cards” help you break the ice and get ideas and exchange information from other students and advisors. You’ll get to meet them during workshops, breaks, at breakfast, at lunch, sightseeing, and at the hotel. You won’t be lonely!
3. Are any meals included?
Yes! Your registration fee includes:
1. Free lunch: A boxed lunch on Saturday (choice of sandwich, chips, fruit, cookie, drink)
2. Free breakfast: The hotel offers a free hot breakfast for ASGA-block hotel guests each morning
3. Free nightly reception: The hotel also offers a free nightly reception with drinks and snacks
4. Can I change the names of our registrants if someone can’t make it?
Yes! You can change the names anytime before the conference starts. We also have blank name-tags if you need to make a change the day of the event. See Register.
5. Can you help me find a roommate at the conference hotel?
Yes! If you are looking for a roommate, write conferences@asgaonline.com. Please include your name, gender, e-mail, arrival and departure date, and any special requests.
6. Will I need a rental car?
Probably. Orlando does not offer convenient public transportation options.
The ASGA hotel does not offer an airport shuttle. If you’re flying, you will need transportation to and from airport, conference location, restaurants, and attractions.
While you can take a taxi ($52-$68), shuttle van ($22-$37 per person), or Uber ($42-$60) and Lyft from the Orlando International Airport to the conference hotel, ASGA recommends that you get a rental car for additional sightseeing, shopping, and restaurant options in Orlando. This would especially be helpful to larger groups (get a rental van).
Uber or Lyft may be less expensive options.
The conference hotel offers a free shuttle that stops at all four Disney parks, as well as SeaWorld and Universal Studios (Contact the hotel for the shuttle schedule).
See Travel, Directions and Hotel.
7. Do I have to be an ASGA member to come to the conference?
No! Some non-member schools always attend ASGA conferences. However, ASGA members do save $100 per person at this event. Annual ASGA dues are just $397 for schools under 4,000 full-time students, $597 for schools with 4,001 to 10,000 students, $897 for schools with 10,001 to 20,000 students, and only $1,097 annually for schools with over 20,000 full-time students. If you’re bringing a group of four or more students, it almost always makes sense to join ASGA and get the $100 per person discount! Plus, ASGA membership can help your SG with training all year! See Join ASGA.
8. Where can we eat and not spend a fortune?
Remember, you get two hot buffet breakfasts (if you stay in the discounted ASGA-block of rooms at the hotel), a boxed lunch Saturday (choice of wrap/sandwich, fruit, potato salad, water bottle), and evening receptions included in your registration fees. But dinners are on your own. There are many restaurants within a few miles. Also, see Experience Orlando!
9. What type of schools attend?
All types and sizes of schools come to the Fall Student Government Summit. There usually are a few more private colleges and universities than public universities and community colleges. But that’s only because there are more private colleges across the nation than any other type of institution!
10. How many schools attend?
Usually, about 150-250 students and administrators from 20-40 institutions of all types and sizes attend. From 10-20 states are represented, and there are usually about an equal number of community colleges, private institutions, and public institutions
11. What’s included in our registration fee?
Thirty workshops and roundtables, all handouts, lunch (a boxed lunch), two hot breakfasts in the restaurant (for hotel guests). See Conference Fees.
12. How should I dress?
Saturday: business/business casual. Sunday: College/University shirts/jeans.
13. Can I see the schedule and workshops in advance?
Yes! Hover over Program on the top menu, then click on Schedule. It is updated constantly with any changes or improvements to the program.
